Tutorial: Migrating to Hosted Exchange - Step 1: Exporting and backing up your email

To move your existing email to Hosted Exchange you need to use Microsoft Outlook 2003 or newer. Orcon can supply this to you for free if you do not already own a license.

Exporting and backing up your email

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2003 or later and go to the File menu > Import and Export
  2. Import and Export
  3. Click Export to file then click Next
  4. Import Export Wizard
  5. Select Personal Folder File (.pst) and click Next
  6. Export to File
  7. Select a backup location for your file and call it something logical. Click Finish. This may take some time and Outlook may appear not to be doing anything for a few minutes as it starts the backup
  8. Export Personal File

You should now set up your new Exchange mailbox using the set up instructions. Once you have done this proceed to the next step.
