FAQ: I cannot receive email

If your Email account has been set up correctly (you can view Email Setup here http://www.orcon.net.nz/support/gfaq_page/setting_up_email) then it is possible you have a Firewall blocking your Incoming mail.
Here is a quick check to determine if either a rogue firewall or other program is blocking your ability to receive email.
We will perform this for Windows XP as a guide. (Mac OS X users can use Terminal with the same instructions.)
Command line
Go into the command line (also known as the DOS prompt) by following these steps:

·         Click "Start"

·         Click "Run"

·         Type cmd

·         Click "OK"

·         Type telnet mail.orcon.net.nz 110

·         Press "Enter"

On a computer that is working correctly you will get a message that says "+Ok Hello there." or something similar.
When you have a firewall or other programs preventing your computer from connecting to the Orcon email server, you will see a message stating something similar to: “Could not open connection to the host, on port 110: Connect failed
You can either disable it or try contacting your firewall/program manufacturer and get them to help you configure it.
