FAQ: How do I set up my Dial-up connection?

Windows XP
|
- Click on Start and then Control Panel
- Make sure the view is in Classic view (It will say Pick a Category if it is in category view). To swap to Classic view just select switch to classic view on the left hand side of the control panel
- Select the Network Connection icon.
- If the customer has any old dial up connection that they don’t use you can delete these by Right clicking the icon and selecting delete
- If the customer has a new connection wizard icon double click on that otherwise select file from the top and select new connection which will take you to the same place
- Screen one select ‘Connect to the internet’.
- Screen two select ‘Set up my connection manually’.
- Screen three select ‘Connect using a dialup modem’.
- The next screen will either take them to a select a modem screen – if they have more than one modem install or jump straight to screen four.
- Screen four enter Orcon as the connection name.
- Screen five enter the Orcon dialup number – 086755666.
- Screen six enter their Username (Just the username and not the whole email address), password and then confirm the password. All boxes below this should be ticked.
- Screen seven – second line up from the bottom put a tick in the box besides where it says – Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop.
- Click finished.

Windows Vista
|
- Click on the Start menu.
- Select Connect To.
- The Connect to a network window opens.
- Click on the Set up a connection or network link located to the bottom of the window.
- In Choose a connection option, select Set up a dial up connection.
- Click on Next.
- In ‘dial-up phone number’, enter 0867 55 666.
- Enter the username provided by Orcon.
- Enter the password provided by Orcon.
- In ‘connection name’, enter the name of your connection. Eg Orcon.
- Tick the Show characters box to view the connection password.
- Tick the Remember this password box so you do not need to enter it again in the future.
- Once all the information has been entered, click on Connect .
- A new window displays the different connection stages.
- The You are connected to the Internet message will appear if the connection stages were completed successfully.
- If you click on Browse the Internet Now, your Internet browser will open.
- The Set Network Location window appears.
- Select the location for your connection.
- The Successfully set network settings message appears.
- Click on Close .
- The Internet connection has been created and you may launch your Browser.

Windows 7
|
- Click on the Start menu.
- Select Control Panel.
- Switch from Category view to small icons if not already in small icon view.
- Click on Network and Sharing centre
- Select – Set up a new connection or Network
- Select – Connect using a dial-up modem and Click Next
- In ‘dial-up phone number’, enter 0867 55 666.
- Enter the username provided by Orcon.
- Enter the password provided by Orcon.
- In ‘Connection name’, enter the name of your connection. Eg Orcon.
- Allow other people to use this connection: If you have other Windows user accounts on this computer, and you intend for them to be able to use this dial up connection, check the box. Otherwise, leave it unchecked.

APPLE MAC OSX
|
- From your desktop select the Apple menu.
- Select the ‘System Preferences’ option.
- Double click on the Network option on the System Preferences window.
- Besides ‘Location’ choose ‘Automatic’ from the drop down box
- Besides ‘Show’ (Can be configure in some versions) choose ‘Internal Modem’ from the drop down box
- Select the ‘TCP/IP’ tab. (Is most likely already selected by default)
- Click on the up and down arrow menu next to Configure and set it to ‘Using PPP’ if it is not already selected
- Select the ‘PPP’ tab.
- Type in Orcon in the Service Provider field.
- Type in 086755666 in the Telephone number field.
- Leave the Alternate Phone Number field blank.
- Type in your User Name in the Account Name field.
- Type in your password in the Password field.
- Select the Save Password if you don't want to type it in each time you want to connect to the Internet.
- Click on the ‘PPP Options’ button
- Let the user choose what they want selected under Session options and leave Advance options as default
- Click OK
- Click the Apply Now button and close the window

APPLE MAC OS 8.1 +
|
- You can find the Internet Setup Assistant in the Mac Hard Drive icon on your Desktop, in a folder called ‘Internet’. Double click on the ‘Internet Setup Assistant’ icon.
- Or alternatively hold down the Apple key and the F button at the same time. This opens the Find Files window. Type in the word ‘Assistant’ and click on the ‘Find’ button. You'll see a list of matching file types. From the list double click ‘Internet Setup Assistant’.
- On the first window select ‘Yes’ to setup your Mac.
- Select Yes to the question – ‘Do you already have an Internet Account?’
- Click the right arrow button on the Introduction page to continue.
- Type in Orcon as the name of the configuration.
- If you will connect to Orcon through a Modem then check the ‘Modem option’.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- Where you see the question, ‘Which modem are you using?’, check that the modem listed matches your actual modem. If you don't know the name of your modem then you'll need to check your modem manual or talk to your Apple vendor and ask them.
- For ‘Port’ select your modem port. If your modem is built in then this will be the ‘Internal Modem’ port.
- Your phone line should be set to use ‘Tone’.
- Check to make sure that you don't have ‘Ignore Dial Tone?’ selected.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- Type in Orcons Phone number 086755666
- Type in your User Name and password.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- Select No on the ‘PPP Connect Scripts’ page.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- Select No on the ‘IP Address’ page.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- Enter the ‘Domain Name Servers’ as follows 60.234.1.1 and 60.234.2.2 (Each one needs to be on a separate line).
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- On the ‘E-mail Address and Password’ window type in your email address.
- Type in your password.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- On the ‘E-mail Account and Host Computer’ window fill in your .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for your e-mail account. (Replace username with the customers username)
- Further down the same page type in smtp.orcon.co.nz for the SMTP e-mail host.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- Type in news.Orcon.net.nz on the ‘Newsgroup Host Computer’ page. (This is optional and should only be set up if the user wants to use News groups.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- Select No on the ‘Proxies’ page.
- Click the right arrow button to continue.
- All done! If you want to connect to the Internet then tick the box ‘Connect when finished’ and select ‘Go Ahead’ on the ‘Conclusion’ page.
