FAQ: How Do I Set Up Email on my Orcon Mobile?

Which Orcon mobile device do you have?

Nokia 2730 handset

  • Incoming Email Server: pop3.orcon.net.nz
  • Outgoing Email Server: smtp.orcon.net.nz
  • Incoming Port Number: 110
  • Outgoing Port Number: 587
  • Outgoing Mail Authentication (SSL) is required to be ticked.

Before sending and receiving email on your new Orcon mobile device, you must first ensure that data services have been enabled.

Adding a POP3/IMAP email account

  1. Select Menu > Messaging > E-mail
  2. Select Other from the list of email options
  3. Select I Agree to the Nokia Terms of service
  4. Enter your Orcon email address in to the Email Address field
  5. Enter your Orcon email password in to the Password field and then select Sign In
  6. Select OK to “Unknown domain. Provide server information”
  7. Enter your Orcon email account username (this is usually your email address without the @orcon.net.nz)
  8. Select POP3 (to download all emails off the server to your phone) or IMAP (to leave a copy to be downloaded from multiple locations) from the E-mail access type and select Next
  9. Enter pop3.orcon.net.nz in the Incoming mail server field
  10. Leave Incoming port as 110 and ensure “None” is selected below this and then select Next
  11. Enter smtp.orcon.net.nz in the Outgoing mail server field
  12. Change the Outgoing port to 587 and ensure “None” and “Requires login” are selected below this and then select Sign In

Your Nokia hand-set will now retrieve your email from the server.

Access the e-mail application

Select Menu > Messaging and E-mail or an existing e-mail account.

Nokia 5030 handset

  • Incoming Email Server: pop3.orcon.net.nz
  • Outgoing Email Server: smtp.orcon.net.nz
  • Incoming Port Number: 110
  • Outgoing Port Number: 587
  • Outgoing Mail Authentication (SSL) is required to be ticked.

The device selected is not capable of supporting email.

Nokia E71 handset

  • Incoming Email Server: pop3.orcon.net.nz
  • Outgoing Email Server: smtp.orcon.net.nz
  • Incoming Port Number: 110
  • Outgoing Port Number: 587
  • Outgoing Mail Authentication (SSL) is required to be ticked.

Before sending and receiving email on your new Orcon mobile device, you must first ensure that data services have been enabled or you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Set up POP or IMAP e-mail

If the account type you want to set up isn’t already in your phone’s database, you’ll be asked to enter a few more details. The necessary Orcon server and port settings are listed at the top of this FAQ.

  1. Go to the home screen, scroll to the Set up e-mail wizard, and press the centre select key.
  2. Select Start e-mail setup.
  3. Read the information on the display, and select Start.
  4. Select Yes to allow your device to access the network and then select your Orcon data connection from the list of connections.
  5. Enter your e-mail address and select OK.
  6. Enter your password and select OK.
  7. Enter your email account username in the Username field and select OK.
  8. Select POP3/IMAP4 from the list of email account types.
  9. Select OK to proceed to through the POP3/IMAP4 wizard.
  10. Select POP3 from Mailbox type if you wish to download all emails from the server to your phone, or select IMAP4 if you wish to leave a copy on the server (this will cause the emails to be downloaded each time, unless you delete them off the server manually). Select OK to your preferred Mailbox type.
  11. Enter pop3.orcon.net.nz in to the Incoming mail server field and select OK.
  12. Leave Security for Incoming server as None and select OK.
  13. Enter smtp.orcon.net.nz as the Outgoing mail server and select OK.
  14. Leave Security for Outgoing server as None and select OK.
  15. Enter Port number as 587 and select OK.
  16. The wizard should now be completed. Select OK to exit.

Tip: After you have set up a POP or IMAP e-mail, in the Messaging main view, select Options > Settings > E-mail and the mailbox to edit the settings, for example a possible signature, or the name of your mailbox.

Read and reply to e-mail

To read a received e-mail, open it from the mailbox.

To open an attachment, select Options >Attachments. Scroll to the attachment, and press the scroll key.

To reply only to the sender of an e-mail, select Options > Reply > To sender.

To reply to all recipients of an e-mail, select Options >Reply > To all.

Tip: If you reply to an e-mail that contains attached files, the attachments are not included in the reply. If you forward the received e-mail, the attachments are included.

To forward an e-mail, select Options > Forward.

 

To attach a file to an e-mail message, select Options >Insert and the attachment you want to add.

To delete an attachment from an e-mail that you are sending, select the attachment and Options >Remove.

To set the message priority, select Options > Sending options > Priority.

To set the sending time for the e-mail message, select Options > Sending options > Send message. Select Immediately, or select When conn. avail. if you are working offline.

To call the sender of the e-mail message, if the sender can be found in Contacts, select Options > Call.

To reply to the sender of the e-mail with an audio message or multimedia message, select Options >Create message.

Write and send e-mail

  1. To write an e-mail, select New message > Email.
  2. Select Options > Add recipient to select the recipients' e-mail addresses from Contacts, or enter the e-mail addresses in the To field. Use a semicolon to separate entries. Use the Cc field to send a copy to other recipients, or the Bcc field to send a blind copy to recipients.
  3. In the Subject field, enter the subject of the e-mail.
  4. Enter your e-mail message in the text area, and select Options > Send.

Delete messages

To free up memory space on your device, regularly delete messages from the Inbox and Sent folders, and delete retrieved e-mail messages.

To delete e-mail from the device only, and keep the original on the server, select Options > Delete >Phone (header remains).

To delete e-mail both from the device and the remote server, select Options > Delete > Phone and server.

To cancel the deleting, select Options > Restore.

    If the account type you want to set up isn’t already in your phone’s database, you’ll be asked to enter a few more details.
  3. Enter your Orcon email address and Password for the email account, and then tap Next.
  4. Select either POP (to download all emails from the server to this device) or IMAP (to leave a copy on the server to be downloaded each time) from the Protocol drop down for your email account.
  5. Ensure your email address is typed correctly in the Email address field.
  6. Enter the Orcon username for your email address (generally this is your email address without the @orcon.net.nz) in to the Username and the password for your Orcon account in the Password field.
  7. Enter pop3.orcon.net.nz in to the POP server field.
  8. Leave Security type as None and Server port as 110 and then tap Next.
  9. For Outgoing server settings ensure that “Login required“ is ticked and your Username and Password are your correct Orcon username and password.
  10. Enter smtp.orcon.net.nz in to the SMTP server field.
  11. Leave Security type as None.
  12. Change the Server port to 587 and then tap Next.
  13. On the New account screen enter a name to identify your email account on this device.
  14. In the Your name field enter the name you would like people to see when you email from this device and then tap Finish Setup.

Your HTC Legend will now download the emails from the server on to the device.

Sending an email message

  1. On the Home screen, tap , and then tap Mail.
  2. On the email account Inbox, press MENU and then tap Compose.
  3. Fill in one or more recipients. You can:
    • Enter email addresses directly in the To field. If you’re sending the email to several recipients, separate the email addresses with a comma.
    • Tap the icon, and then select the contacts to whom you want to send the message. When youhave selected all the message recipients, tap OK.
  4. Enter the subject, and then enter your message.
  5. Tap Send.

HTC Desire handset

Adding a POP3/IMAP email account

  1. Tap the Windows button at the bottom of your phone.
  2. Tap Email.
  3. Tap Setup Email.
  4. Enter your e-mail address in to the E-mail address field.
  5. Enter the password for your email account into the Password field and then tap Next.
  6. Untick “Try to get e-mail settings automatically” and tap Next.
  7. Select Internet e-mail from the Your e-mail provider drop down and tap Next.
  8. Enter the name you wish to appear on your email in to the Your name field.
  9. Enter the name you wish to use to identify this email account on your phone into the Account display name field and then tap Next.
  10. Enter pop3.orcon.net.nz in to the Incoming mail server field.
  11. Leave account type as POP3 in the Account type field and tap Next.
  12. Enter the username for your Orcon email account into the User name field.
  13. Enter the password for your Orcon email account into the Password field and then tap Next.
  14. Enter smtp.orcon.net.nz into the Outgoing (SMTP) mail server field and tick “Outgoing server requires authentication” and then tap Next.
  15. Select your preferred time frame for Automatic Send / Receive and then tap Finish.

Your Orcon email address has now been set-up on your new Orcon mobile and you can now send and receive emails following the below instructions.

To send email

  1. On the Home screen, slide to the Mail tab and tap an email account to use on the right side of the screen.
  2. Tap the New Email icon to create a new email message.
  3. Tap To and then select a contact or an email group. In the To field, you can also enter the first few letters of the recipient’s name to display a matching list of names from your stored contacts, and then tap a recipient to automatically fill in the person’s email address.
  4. Enter your subject and message, and then tap Send.
