FAQ: What do I need?

Broadband Modem You will need a broadband modem to connect to the Orcon broadband network. If you currently have broadband with another provider, then your existing modem should be able to connect to Orcon broadband. We can also rent you a modem if that suits Broadband enabled phone line To allow you to talk and use the internet at the same time, your line needs to be set up to separate the voice and data components at your premises and the local telephone exchange. Line filter(s) To separate the voice and data streams coming over your phone line, you need to have a line filter installed which provides phone and internet jack points. This is automatically included if you go for a "Full Install", but for "Self Install" options you will need to purchase a line filter for each jack point you plug a device into. Note: not needed with Orcon Genius. Ethernet or USB-capable computer We generally recommend you have a 1Ghz or faster computer with an Ethernet networking card or USB port onboard to get the best out of the internet.

FAQ: Can I keep my old number when I switch over to LLU or Orcon Genius?

Yes, if you are staying in the same house then we can move your old phone number over. However, if you're moving into a new local calling area that requires you to get a new number (such as if you're moving from Papakura to Ponsonby), then you won't be able to keep your old number.

FAQ: Can I keep my existing phone number?

Absolutely. Just don’t cancel it with your old provider before getting connected with us. You shouldn’t need to tell your old provider to cancel your number, we’ll move it over for you. Of course if you want a shiny brand new number we can do that for you too.

FAQ: Are there any connection/set up fees?

If you are an @home or @work broadband customer, and you sign up for a fixed term contract, we'll pick up the connection cost. If you want the flexibility of no fixed term, then we'll ask you to chip in $99 towards the installation. If you have more than 5 phone jacks, or a monitored home alarm you may need a full install ($149). If your house has never had a phone line in use or no active line for 3 months or more there may be a cost of $99 as well to get the phone line established. We will explain all this to you when you sign up. For other @work products like Fibre, prices vary. We will explain all this to you when you call us.
