Local Loop Unbundling – The local loop is the term for the copper connection between your house and your local telephone exchange. When Orcon talks about unbundling, we’re referring to installing our own equipment in telephone exchanges, and connecting your copper directly to our own equipment.

Glossary: Telephone Exchange

A telephone exchange is a central point in a town or suburb where the phone lines of everyone in that area interconnect. It is generally a rather nondescript looking building full of lots and lots and lots of wires. It is here that Orcon has begun installing our own equipment, something that is called ‘local loop unbundling’.

Glossary: Connection Speed

This is the rate at which data is transferred to and from the Internet. This is generally measured in Megabits per second, or Mbps. Dial-up users may measure their speed in Kilobits per second, or Kbps. If you are on Orcon+ broadband the theoretical maximum is 24Mbps download and 1Mbps upload, and on regular broadband it is 7.6Mbs download and 768kps upload.
