The search for new desktop art

12 February 2009 - Written by Matt Sliedrecht - Cool Website

Searching for the perfect desktop background is an art. You will be staring at it for over 8 hours a day so it’s important that it’s easy on the eye, relaxing and most importantly got style.

Normally I’d go for landscape... A nice sunset or a lake (something to take my mind from the concrete jungle of the city) but after finding this great site Myoats – http://www.myoats.com I’ve changed tack completely.

Myoats is a website where people can create designs using the online drawing application. The designs can then be downloaded, archived or rated.

After playing around for a little while with the online drawing tool I came to the conclusion that I have drawing abilities closer to a 3 year old than Rembrandt so I headed to the ‘Most Liked’ section to see what other people were doing.

After searching through all the brilliant contributions from people I fell in love with “Feeling the music” by Tichder.

If you don’t find anything at myoats.com (and I don’t see how you can’t) here are some of my other favourite sites to find a desktop background:

  • Desktopography - Natures design on your desktop
  • Desktoptopia - Automatically updates your monitor with fresh designer desktops
  • Mandolux - Beautiful photos from the professional bum Mando Gomez

Got a favourite site you get your desktop art from? Would love to hear about it, I’m always on the hunt for something new!
