Instrument playing on The Passenger: Drum kit, Tambourine
Why did you enter the audition?: My parents called me as soon as they saw the ad on tv and told me they thought I should try out. They're really proud of me and they've put up with so much of noise over the years. I owe them big time, so I gave it a shot.
How long / many times did you practise the song?: Probably about 5 times.
How many takes did you do?: I had recorded my practises to find a good camera angle, but when I went back to video my final take after work my friend Takumi was using my camera and the p.a for his audition, so I ended up using one of my practise recordings.
What was the best part of the audition?: Seeing my audition go up on the net and get heaps of views, and then of course getting the call from Orcon. I couldn't believe it when I found out my friends Takumi and Miho also got in! I think we're going to have to get together and have an Iggy Pop party when the ad comes out!
How many Iggy Pop records do you own / songs do you know?: Quite a few. There are heaps of songs out there that I've known for years from ads and movies that I wasn't aware were by Iggy until now.
What was it like playing with Iggy via the Internet?: Amazing. Iggy was so supportive and had lots of advice to get a great performance from each of us. I thought it was going to be difficult communicating via Skype but it wasn't, we had a cool little chat about my bands, "Strike" and "Nana Squad". Everything felt really relaxed and natural even though we were thousands of miles apart.
What was the highlight of the day recording with Iggy?: The highlight of the day was by far when Iggy told me I have a "killer left hand".
What does this opportunity mean to you?: I'm not really sure yet. Hopefully it'll lead to some more amazing opportunities. Right now I'm just stoked that Iggy Pop picked me
