Sites we love #3

Tuesday April 22, 2008 ~ Posted by: Duncan Blair

It has been a little while since we have had an installment of the 'sites we love' (check out installment #1 and #2 if you haven't already). So without further ado here is another group of sites we love...

Wikipedia

Do you want to know Barack Obama's middle name? Or the maximum depth of the Red Sea? How about the date Swaziland gained independence? Or maybe the origins of Psychedelic Pop? Whether you are having an argument with your partner, or cheating in a pub quiz Wikipedia is the place to get all the answers to everything. Consider also contributing to something that you know a lot about.

Meetup

If you have a burning desire to meet like minded people then Meetup.com is the place to do it. No, it's not a dating site, it is the modern day equivalent of the school notice board. There are litterally thousands of clubs and groups using it to organise meetups around the world, including right here in NZ. Can't find what you are looking for? Start your own meetup!

The Cool Hunter

If you want to know what is hot you need to check out The Cool Hunter. Everything from music to architecture is covered by these globe trotting trend spotters. Essential reading for those who like to be the coolest kids on the block.

Twittearth

If you read the previous 'sites we love' you would have read about Twitter, a web based micro-blogging service. Twittearth mashes Twitter users 'tweets' with a 3 dimensional globe in real time so you can see what people are talking about all over the world. You can even download it as a screen saver (only for Windows users at the moment, Mac version coming soon).

Linerider

Bored at work? Got a Sunday afternoon to kill? Give Linerider a go. To put it simply, you draw a line, then set a little guy on a sled out to 'ride' your lines. You can then save your ride and even publish it as a video on YouTube. To get an idea of how much time people put into this check out this amazing Linerider adventure:

Mixwit

Find your favourite music on the net, compile it all together, and then share it with your friends (complete with old school tape picture). Check out this demo one that we just whipped up...
