Go Large goes nowhere, fast! Why is broadband faster with Orcon...

Tuesday December 05, 2006 ~ Posted by: Duncan Blair

Over the past few weeks we have had a lot of customers from other ISPs (Internet Service Providers) who have switched to Orcon Broadband as a result of the poor performance they have been receiving. We are really proud of the performance we give our customers on all our plans, and so we wanted to share with you how we make that happen.

Here is a bit of insider information on Orcon's Broadband Network:

  • Orcon uses a fully redundant Juniper Core Network; delivering top performance and reliability
  • We have dual international bandwidth links, that are fully protected
  • We provision one of, if not the highest amount of international bandwidth per customer in the industry
  • We do not rate shape, block, or change the prioritisation of peer to peer (P2P) traffic on our non-ZeroShock data plans
  • We peer at both the Auckland and Wellington Peering Exchanges (APE & WIX) for improved domestic bandwidth performance
  • Orcon uses dual domestic transit links, again improving our domestic bandwidth performance
  • Orcon is one of the only ISPs in New Zealand that has interleaving turned off on all new max/128 and max/max connections from the 26th of October, resulting in lower pings and improved performance for gamers and VoIP users

We understand that most of the items in that list are techno-babble to most people, but at its most basic level it means we have invested heavily in our network so that our customers get the best possible broadband experience we can deliver; and of course this will only get better with unbundling.

This investment in our network is just one of the reasons that we have received numerous awards, most recently the 2006 TUANZ ISP of the Year award.

Our ZeroShock data plan has been incredibly popular, with customers enjoying the choice of three speeds, the improved performance for VoIP and gaming, and also the good downloading performance. So if you are with another ISP check out our special offer of two months free broadband if you switch to Orcon today. If you are already with us then why not tell your friends and family, they will thank you for it.
