Another update on local loop unbundling (LLU)
Tuesday November 13, 2007 ~ Posted by: Duncan Blair
We are a little bit late with this update (we said November 10th), so our apologies. The reason is that we were more than a little bit surprised with the Commerce Commissions decision to raise the monthly fee for an LLU port by 20% in urban areas, and 14% in non-urban areas (see our media release for more). However we are still pushing ahead with LLU (or UCLL as it is now known) in the 5 trial sites: Ponsonby, Ellerslie, Glenfield, Mt Albert and Browns Bay.
We will be connecting customers in these 5 trial sites from late January 2008, and we will be delivering the fastest broadband that New Zealanders have seen.
Existing Orcon customers who live in these areas will get the first access to these packages early in the new year. So if you aren't an Orcon customer already now is a great time to join. You could be one of the first people in New Zealand to get a taste of the future of communications in NZ.
We can't yet tell you where will be next after those five exchanges, we have to wait for the outcome of Telecom's ranking process that we talked about in the last update. We will let you know as soon as we can.
