An update on local loop unbundling (LLU)
Wednesday October 17, 2007 ~ Posted by: Duncan Blair
We have received a huge number of calls and emails from people wanting to know what is happening with local loop unbundling. The following is a brief update on what is going on, and when it is going on.
What we can tell you right now is....
There are 5 telephone exchanges participating in the LLU trials
- Ponsonby
- Glenfield
- Ellerslie
- Browns Bay
- Mt Albert
We have installed our new equipment in Ponsonby and Glenfield exchanges and connected some Orcon staff to the service - we are delighted to inform you that the performance of our equipment is world class.
We will be installing more new equipment into the Ellerslie, Browns Bay and Mt Albert exchanges before the end of December.
When can we sell our new services from out of the 5 trial locations?
The Commerce Commission are scheduled to release their final determination on the 9th of November. The determination will include a date for when we can sell our new services from these 5 locations to new and existing Orcon customers. So, please make a note to check back on the 10th of November for an update.
I live outside of the 5 exchanges, when can I expect to get LLU?
The draft determination released by the Commerce Commission on 30 July states that Telecom must unbundle 15 exchanges per quarter.
Along with the other access seekers, Orcon has the opportunity to vote for the exchanges it would like to see unbundled first. We can pick 60 that we would like to be unbundled in the first year. Other access seekers will be picking their 60 at the same time. All votes will go into a melting pot for ranking and we will have a final list of 60 exchanges by the end of December.
Anymore questions?
