Phishing alert: No need to verify your Orcon email account now

Friday November 23, 2007 ~ Posted by: Duncan Blair

We have had a few concerned customers calling our Help Desk about a fraudulent email they received asking them to update their Orcon email account details. This email is not from Orcon, and is an attempt to obtain your username and password (a practice called phishing) - please ignore it.

Orcon customer phishing email

The subject of the email (pictured above) is "Verify your Orcon email account now" and the email says that Orcon needs to create space for new accounts so you need to "to confirm your identity by replying with your username and password".

The email also says that "Account owner that refuses to update his or her account within Seven days of receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently [sic]."

This email is spam and definitely wasn't sent by us. I am sure that all of you knew that anyway when you saw the atrocious spelling and grammar, but we thought we would give you a heads up just in case. We have now blocked the sender and we've also reported this cheeky spammer to the authorities.

Remember we would never ask for your password and we wouldn't delete your email account. When you get an Orcon email account with us, it's yours for life. Thanks to all our customers who took the time to let us know.
