Orcon set to offer Mobile services in 2007

Wednesday August 16, 2006 ~ Posted by: Duncan Blair

After some pretty intense rumours and speculation we can today confirm that we have entered into a heads of agreement with Vodafone, and intend to offer mobile services (calling and data) from 2007.

We are really excited about the prospect of becoming New Zealands third mobile player. While we can't be too specific about exactly what our product offering will be at this stage we can say this:

  • We will be able to offer mobile broadband to compliment our fixed line broadband services. With Orcon you will be able to surf anywhere you like, at great speeds, and all using the same account.
  • Our mobile internet will include HSDPA support. This means that you will not require any additional hardware to surf the Internet from your laptop at high speed if you purchase one of the new laptops with HSDPA support.
  • Of course we will be offering competitive calling packages to compliment our existing Internet and direct-dial tolls products.
  • We will be offering both business and residential mobile products.

Keep an eye on the Orcon website over the coming months, because we will be adding additional information as soon as we can.

You can register for updates on the service, and be the first to know developments in our great new mobile product offerings by filling out the form at the bottom of this blog post. We wont spam you, just send you information about the Orcon mobile offering as it becomes avaliable.

These are exciting times for us here at Orcon, and we want to thank all our customers who have helped us get to this point. With both this and local loop unbundling on the horizon we are preparing for some big changes. What better time to join us and be part of this revolution in New Zealand telecommunications.
