Changes to Orcon and Orcon+ Broadband Data Prices

Tue 5 May 2009

We are changing some of the prices of data for Orcon Broadband customers as of the 23rd of May. We are also introducing a great new feature, the Orcon O Zone: a group of websites that Orcon@home and Orcon@work Broadband customers can surf, upload to and download from without contributing to their monthly data use.

From the 23rd of May we are standardising the price of data across both the Orcon and Orcon+ networks. This will mean some changes for exsiting customers. Those customers that are affected have been emailed to their preferred email address.

For customers on the Orcon+ network the price of casual overage will increase to $2 per GB.

The new data add-on pricing (which applies to both Orcon and Orcon+ customers) will be:

Add on size Price per month
5GB $8
10GB $12
25GB $25
50GB $50
100GB $80
200GB $160

This new pricing represents a price increase for some users, and a decrease for others. We try our hardest to avoid price increases for our customers, but unfortunately sometimes it is unavoidable. We realised over the last few months that some of our data pricing was just not sustainable, hence the price increase for some users. It is important to note that for the majority of users affected this represents an increase to their total package cost of less than 3%.

We have made a plan recommendation for those users who would save money by adding a data add-on. This is included in the email that we sent you.

We do have some great news for all Orcon Broadband customers...

Introducing the O Zone

We've thought long and hard about how we can make Orcon Broadband customers monthly data allowance go that little bit further. To do this we've come up with the O Zone - a group of popular NZ websites that Orcon@home and Orcon@work Broadband customers can surf for free. From 23 May 2009, when you visit sites that are part of the O Zone you can visit them, upload and download from them as much as you like without these contributing to your monthly data usage.

Sites confirmed for the Orcon O Zone are:

We are intending to increase our list of Orcon O Zone sites in the future so if you have a site in mind that you'd like added let us know by emailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). No promises but we will see what we can do.

Note that the O Zone does not apply to Orcon Broadband customers on legacy plans, but you can upgrade at any time for free.
